NBD isn’t the name of a brand-new boy band. It’s a popular internet acronym to add to your vocabulary. Read on to find out what NBD meaning and how to use it effectively in your communications. In this article we will let you know how do i use “NBD”.

It’s not a big deal

This practice is known as ‘humility’. This acronym is often on paper in lowercase “not a big deal” instead of uppercase. NBD means “not much”. When used in response to another message, it is an expression to downplay or weigh down favours or gifts. For instance, you can SMS someone “Not Good” if they thank you for helping them fix their automobile. It can also be cast-off to appear more modest in the face of a noteworthy accomplishment.

NBD and the abbreviation NP, which stands for “no difficulty,” are very similar. Both are acceptable replacements for words like “You’re welcome” when someone thanks you. They are both common responses. Additionally, it resembles DW, which stands for “Don’t Worry,” in several ways. All three of these words are frequently in reaction to thankfulness. On the other hand, NBD is commonly used sarcastically and typically has an entirely different meaning than NP and DW.

The history of the NB

NBD began to gain prominence in the early 2000s through chat rooms and online chat applications such as AOL Instant Messenger. The first definition of NBD in the internet slang repository Urban Dictionary dates back to 2005 and states that it means “not much”.

While “NBD” was initially future to thank someone who said thank you sincerely, it morphed into something else entirely in the 2010s. As social networks like Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook emerged, the practice of “humbly showing off” began. Became much more common, especially among teenagers. This run to a rise in the use of “NBD”. The sarcastic definition of the acronym used in face-to-face conversations has also gained popularity, with “NBD” being a common term in chat apps like WhatsApp and iMessage.

Stay Humble

Originally, Np stood for “no problem” and acted as a genuine response to someone thanking them. People often cast off it to downplay the importance or difficulty of doing a favour for someone else. For example, if someone thanks you for taking them to the airport, you can say “N”.

Most of the time, even when it was “a major issue,” people would say “NBD.”Although it takes a lot of time and effort, you can say NBD to ease the other person’s concerns or make them feel less committed to you.

Sarcasm and Humblebrags

On the other side, using NBD could be a way to show off. When they wish to “brag” about anything, people frequently add NBD. An individual might post, for instance, “I just acquired a gleaming new automobile, NBD,” along with images of their new vehicle. The majority of Internet users, however, can readily spot this attempt at modesty.

NBD may also be cast-off sarcastically in one of two ways. The first is when you’re explicitly trying to get someone to congratulate you or say thank you. If you just did someone a favour, you can tell them how difficult the turn was, along with NBD. For example, you would text: “I only had to get up at 6 am to take you to the airport, but NBD.” It’s a way to get someone to show you their gratitude.

The other way to use the NBD sarcastically is to jokingly “humbly brag” about something. For example, on social media, you can post the same message: “I just got a shiny new car, NBD.” However, you can post photos of a kid’s tricycle you bought for your nephew instead of pictures of your car. That parodies the previous post for comedic effect.

How to use NDB

When someone praises you or expresses appreciation for your work, utilise NBD as your response to use it sincerely. If you want to use it sarcastically, add it to the end of a sentence to show how “important” your actions were, or use it in a self-deprecating joke.

“It’s not a big deal”.”

“Not”, I just got promoted at work.

“NBD”, mate, I’m happy to help.”
